The City of Norwalk, Ohio held a grand opening and ribbon cutting ceremony for the New Fire Station 501 located at 108 Whittlesey Avenue on Thursday, November 15th. The state-of-the-art station, which is the first to be built in the city in 106 years, was funded in part by the numerous donations of local businesses and citizens.
The new 17,000 sf station will allow the Department to grow alongside the community with features such as bunk spaces for 24 firefighters, numerous training opportunities, and 5 drive-through apparatus bays.
While a state-of-the-art facility was needed to keep up with the daily caseload of the Department, the need to reflect the historic past of the Department was also important. As a result, the Station includes display cases with historic relics and photos of past firefighting throughout the facility.
