In 2014 the City of Columbus hired Mull and Weithman Architects to replace the existing flat roof with a new built up system. The rooftop is peppered with several exhaust fans, mechanical and electrical equipment and gas lines that serve all of the merchants, plus, five large existing light wells that bring natural light into the building.
Mull and Weithman was tasked to find the best way to complete the project while allowing the North Market vendors to continue to operate normally, free of any debris that the roof work may cause. The solution included a temporary horizontal UL rated dust barrier that would capture any debris but still allow the fire suppression system for work if needed. Work that would have an impact on the operations of the North Market was completed after normal business hours.
