The Columbus Division of Police has a total of 20 precincts serving over 900,000 residents within the city. Substation No. 6 replacement is one of the City’s newest police substations, and serves the residents and businesses of the northeast portion of the city near the Easton Town Center. The 15,000 S.F. facility is designed to house police precinct #6, a Community Response Team (CRT), Detectives, and the Commander for this zone. The design includes a community meeting room for neighborhood events, classes, and training that doubles as an ICC-500 compliant storm shelter. This substation is currently in the design phase with construction scheduled to be completed in 2027. The site utilizes “Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design” (CPTED) principles consisting of both natural and manmade barriers to provide enhanced security for law enforcement personnel. The design includes a garage / sallyport space, interrogation rooms, BAC testing area, bicycle patrol storage, a secure police parking lot with covered cruiser parking, locker room space and a physical fitness center for police personnel. Tactical gear lockers have been located near the police entrance for rapid response. The station includes a Roll Call space with direct access to a secured equipment room, charging & storage areas for body cameras, radios, tasers and other equipment. The station has found the balance between state-of-the-art operations while maintaining a connection with the surrounding warehouse district and adjacent Easton Town Center.
Construction is scheduled to start early 2026
