Construction is moving steadily forward on the City of Columbus’ newest fire facility—Fire Station 36—with substantial completion anticipated in early spring of 2026. Serving as the project’s contractor, Elford Construction is bringing the Mull & Weithman Architects design to life on a 3.67-acre city-owned site in the rapidly expanding northeast quadrant of Columbus.
As the metropolitan area continues to grow, the City identified the need for an additional station to enhance response times and better serve nearby neighborhoods. Fire Station 36 is designed to meet that demand through a modern, efficient layout that supports both emergency response and firefighter wellness.
The new station features four drive-through apparatus bays supported by a full suite of operational spaces—including a turnout gear room, EMS supply, gear laundry, equipment decontamination alcove, and three dedicated personal decontamination rooms. Living quarters will accommodate up to 15 personnel per shift, supported by amenities that promote readiness and health, such as a spacious fitness training room and a watch room.
Because of its location at the edge of the city, Station 36 will be the first Columbus fire station to incorporate enhanced training features beyond those available at the city’s Fire Training Academy. Additionally, the facility will serve as a satellite hub for the department’s transient personnel, providing office space for up to 10 staff.
As construction progresses, Fire Station 36 stands poised to strengthen emergency response capabilities and support the long-term needs of Columbus’ growing communities.
